Photo (and promo) of The Week 2-21-2011

Since I am working on some promotional print materials for the Pet Expo At the Roanoke Civic Center on May 6 and May 7th, 2011in May to promote the Blue Ridge Horse Force, I thought I would share with all of you a photo I took this summer. This is Bailey Hatcher with some of her friends at one of the local horse shows at Green Hill Park. Bailey just won the BRHF High Point Championship in Gymkhana this evening. Congratulations Bailey! As you can see I did do some special effects to add a posterized effect to the photo for promotional post cards. I think it turned out well. Thanks Bailey for letting us use this photo to promote the BRHF (and OBTW the BRHF is also for boys and men but the majority of riders are female at this time).

Did You Know That February 20th is 2011 Hug An Equestrian Day?

Who’s your favorite equestrian?

Sunday, February 20th is Hug an Equestrian Day for 2011. What a wonderful way to ward off the winter chill. No one seems to know where this happy horsey holiday of hugging started. Regardless of its origins, Hug an Equestrian Day is on Facebook, so it must be real, right? OK, kidding. Even so, why not embrace this occasion of outreach wholeheartedly. Give a horseman (or a horsewoman) a hug, Just don’t get yourself arrested, as you reach out and touch someone. Or play it safe … and hug a horse instead.

Here Are Two More To Add To Our Valentines Photo Of The Week

We stopped by the Green Hill Park Equestrian Center Horse Show today and I got a couple of cool photos of Laura Owen's horse Riley. So I decided to add some "special effects" to celebrate Valentines week and add these two to our Photo Of The Week. Now is a good time to join Green Hill Park Equestrian Center and also to join the Blue Ridge Horse Force or otherwise known as BRHF to earn points for showing all year long at BRHF sanctioned shows to qualify for year end awards. This is a great club with great prizes so be sure to check out their website for more details: BRHF Home Page

Photo Of The Week 2-14-2011

This beautiful photo was taken by Laura Owen - Thanks Laura for letting us display your work. This is a beautiful photo...it gives me SPRING FEVER!

Since it is Valentines tomorrow I took Laura's beautiful photo and added some "heart effects" to it for Valentine's Day. Happy Valentines Riders!

Photo Of The Week 2-7-2011

The Rocky Mountain Horse

I ran across this photo I took last year and I decided to make it Horseva's Photo of The Week so we can show a beautiful Rocky Mountain Horse on this site. This photo was taken by Christina Lee for horseva.com

Around the turn of the 20th century, a young horse soon to be called the Rocky Mountain Horse appeared in eastern Kentucky that gave rise to a line of horses prized by North American and European owners. On the farm of Sam Tuttle in Spout Springs Kentucky, there stood a stallion "Old Tobe". This sure footed, gentle horse carried young, old, and inexperienced riders over the rugged mountain trails of Natural Bridge State Park where Sam held the concession for horse-back riding. Even though Old Tobe was a breeding stallion, he carried riders without faltering. He fathered many fine horses up until the age of 37, and many of the present Rocky Mountain Horses carry his bloodline.
